Responsibilities

The Software Automation Engineer – Automation/Robotics works to configure HighRes’ robotic systems to meet a set of required specifications. The candidate will be based from our Manchester, UK office in Trafford Park. The candidate will be comfortable with steady and consistent travel within mainland Europe of up to several weeks at a time, consisting of up to 50% of the year. The position is educational, demanding, and rewarding.

  

Position Responsibilities:

  • Develop and troubleshoot software (device drivers) for integrating laboratory devices with robotic systems.
  • Configure system databases and software.
  • Implement robotic systems per Functional Design Specification.
  • Teach robotic platforms and system configuration.
  • Verify system assembly (pneumatics, communications, etc.).
  • Develop test plans in conjunction with Project Manager.
  • Perform test plans at HighRes and customer sites.
  • Review designs for robotic system with project team.
  • Interface with customers for requirements, testing and training.

Qualifications

Essential Knowledge and Skills:

  • Technical Background – BSc degree in IT/Engineering/Scientific discipline.
  • Minimum one year industrial experience is desirable. Candidates with other demonstrable relevant experience will also be considered.
  • Basic/Intermediate C#, object oriented programming.
  • Basic/Intermediate networking set-up and management.
  • Basic/Intermediate computer communications (TCP/IP, RS232).
  • Basic/Intermediate relational databases (Oracle and Access)
  • Previous experience working with lab automation devices and systems is desirable
  • Excellent problem solving skills, required to overcome unforeseen challenges quickly and effectively.
  • A self-starter, able to work effectively both as a team member and individually during offsite installation tasks.
  • Excellent communication skills.

Additional Requirements:

  • Valid UK driving license
  • Travel up to 50%.
  • Domestic and international travel, passport required
  • The new recruit will receive full training in our system technologies.
